Biomarkers for RAtional Investigation for Neurological decision Support in TBI: BRaINS-TBI
Eligibility

Inclusion Criteria:
≥ 16 years of age
Glasgow Coma Score 13, 14, or 15
Presentation within 24 hours of sustaining a head injury
Meet criteria to be assessed for consideration of a head CT using NICE NG232 clinical decision support tool (CDST)
Patients with a prior history of TBI which required clinical assessment but occurred more than 1 year prior may still be included
Exclusion Criteria:
Participant without capacity and no available patient legal representative or professional consultee available
Participant with capacity unwilling to provide informed consent
Unable to adequately understand written and verbal English for consent and assessments unless an appropriate translator is available.
The BRAINS-TBI study looks at how blood tests can help manage mild head injuries. We use a handheld device to check a blood sample for signs of brain injury. For some patients, we will use the test results to decide if a CT scan is needed

In standard working hours; 9-5
Please contact the ED Research Team when eligible patients arrive in ED. The ED team will invite the patient to participate and do all the tasks to enroll them if they agree
