The TBI Reporter Prospective Proof of Principle (3P) cohort

Any brain injury ≥18 years old Observational

Study aim

TBI reporter is establishing a network for researching traumatic brain injury. The 3P Study is an observational proof of function cohort study, of patients with traumatic brain injury

Inclusion Criteria

  • Clinical diagnosis of TBI
  • Consideration for CT scan based on NICE screening criteria
  • Presentation within 24 hours of injury
  • Informed consent obtained according to local and national requirements
  • ≥18 years of age

Exclusion Criteria

  • Severe pre-existing neurological disorder that would confound outcome assessments. In practical terms, this would exclude individuals who, because of a neurological disease, would be assessed as having pre-injury moderate disability (or worse) on the Glasgow Outcome Score [2] (GOSE)
  • Patients who may have difficulties in understanding written or verbal information in English that would limit their ability to consent and complete the outcome assessments
  • Patients who have a catastrophic injury where death is expected within 24 hours of injury

Step-by-step recruitment guide

Standard working hours (09:00 – 17:00)
1 Contact the ED Research Team when an eligible patient arrives in the ED — send a message via Epic chat to "ED Research Team" or phone 217907.
2 The ED Research Team will see the patient to arrange consent and randomisation.
Out of hours & weekends
